We recently heard from a customer who uses a mobility scooter and wanted to try on some outdoor gear before committing to a purchase. It's a great question, and one we want to address properly - because finding gear that works with how you move is just as important as finding gear you love.

Choosing Plus Size Outdoor Gear for Mobility Scooter Users

When you use a mobility scooter, the way clothing fits and functions can be quite different from standard try-on considerations. Things worth thinking about include:

Jacket length and fit when seated - a longer back hem or a cut that bunches when sitting can be uncomfortable on longer rides. Shell jackets are less bulky and better for layering for different seasons.
2 way zips are a highlight - having a jacket which unzips from the bottom to allow for easy sitting, access to pockets or adjustable sizing, is a great jacket feature and one to look out for.
Sleeve and shoulder mobility - you want freedom of movement for steering and manoeuvring
Warmth where it counts - your core may need more insulation if you're seated and exposed to wind for extended periods.
Waterproofing on your legs - Your legs may need more waterproofing due to their exposure to rain on wet days
Ease of on and off - zips, fastenings, and layering that are easy to manage independently

If you'd like to visit, we do have a wheelchair parking spot right outside, though it's worth knowing there is a single step at the entry and some width limitations at the door and change room doorways, so it's unlikely you will be able to bring your scooter instore (although it can park right outside for try-ons using your scooter).
